Vineyard Manager (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

An exciting opportunity to join a family owned 26000 vine 6.5 hectare vineyard consisting of 7 grape varieties. The owners are currently looking for an experienced vineyard manager to head up the vineyard management in the pursuit of creating award winning wines both locally and abroad with the added twist of creating a English Vermouth and Bitters.

 

Reporting directly to the owners’ The vineyard manager will be expected to maintain and harvest already productive vines right through to selling the finished product.

 

The role will involve:

 

·       Grape production data, crop estimates and vine maintenance.

·       Tractor operation in spraying, trimming, mowing, roll hacking using the latest equipment.

·       Ensure optimum quality and grape variety characteristics.

·       Work in partnership with agronomists, winemakers and consultants.

·       Select and manage seasonal labour.

·       Manage and organise harvest.

·       Ensure compliance to regulatory standards.

·       Establish and implement vineyard procedures, training and safety initiatives

·       Developing sales opportunities and distributing final product

Applicants should be experienced in:

 

·       Vineyard work and ideally have a viticultural qualification e.g. from Plumpton College.

·       Lead all vineyard activities such as Winter pruning, Summer canopy management, mowing, spraying, soil cultivation, weed control, chemicals management, crop monitoring and harvesting and liaising with viticulturalist.

·       Have good tractor experience and all necessary spray qualifications.

·       Have a strong team-working ethos, as well as the ability to quickly and willingly adapt to new tasks and be willing to help out across the Estate and in the winery.

·       Be flexible in working extended hours when necessary, for example, during the harvest period and busy times in the Summer.

·       Strong organisational and logistical skills.

·       Commercial Acumen

 

Up to £40000 with share of profits and opportunities for promotion/broader role.
