About Calancombe Estate:

Calancombe Estate is a family-run vineyard, winery, Cellar Door restaurant, and distillery located in South Devon. Situated near Modbury, the estate spans approximately 23 hectares, including 8 hectares of vineyards with varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Bacchus, Ortega, Pinot Gris, and Madeleine Angevine. In addition to grapes, we cultivate apples, blackcurrants, and rhubarb, which we use to create our sparkling cyder, apple brandy, cassis, and rhubarb gin. The estate is also the home of Dartmouth English Gin.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Vineyard/Cellar Hand to assist with the 2024 harvest season at Calancombe Estate. This temporary position is available from September for three months, with the potential for a permanent role in the future. This diverse role involves both vineyard and winery work, offering a comprehensive and enjoyable experience.

Responsibilities:

Vineyard:

• Assist the vineyard manager with various vineyard tasks

• Support tractor operations, including mowing, mulching, and trimming

• Help with harvesting, including picking, placing, and collecting crates

• Clean crates and assist with harvest day preparations and clean-up

Winery:

• Take grape samples and conduct analysis

• Clean tanks and presses

• Assist with loading the press

• Support grape receival by weighing and loading crates

• Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the cellar

• Assist with fermentation processes

Ideal Candidate:

We prefer candidates with some experience in vineyard or winery work, but we are also open to those without experience who have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and develop in this industry.

Preferred Skills:

• Previous experience in a vineyard or winery

• Self-motivated and well-organized

• Tractor and forklift experience

Requirements:

• Driver’s license (due to the rural location of the vineyard)

• Right to work in the UK

• Own accommodation
