Calancombe Estate South Devon an award winning vineyard, winery and distillery in South Devon is looking for a Winemaker
Calancombe Estate, a family run vineyard, winery, Cellar Door restaurant and distillery in South Devon is seeking a Winemaker and a Vineyard Manager to join its friendly team. Calancombe Estate near Modbury, South Devon extends to approximately 23 hectares and comprises 8 hectares of vines including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Bacchus, Ortega, Pinot Gris and Madeleine Angevine. In addition to vines, we grow apples, blackcurrants and rhubarb from which we make delicious sparkling cyder, apple brandy, cassis and rhubarb gin. The Calancombe Estate is also home to Dartmouth English Gin.
The successful candidate will:
· Have a winemaking qualification and previous experience as Assistant Winemaker and capable of taking full responsibility for harvest planning, handling all aspects of winemaking for both still and sparkling wines and cyders, including filtering, disgorging, maintaining and cleaning equipment, record keeping, and basic sampling and analysis in our modern winery. You will have significant freedom to craft and influence the styles of wines that are made
· Be responsible for sourcing all necessary consumables including bottles, filters, yeasts and other winemaking supplies to support winery operations
· Be responsible for managing and sourcing temporary labour at busy times of the year as needed
· Be prepared to help in vineyard when quiet in the winery
· Lead tours of the vineyard, winery and tastings
· Represent and promote Calancombe Estate at trade tastings and other external events and generally act as an ambassador for Calancombe Estate including hosting customer tastings at the vineyard and promoting sales
· Have a passion for sustainability
· Hold a proficiency certificate for forklift operation
· Hold a clean driving licence and own transport
· Have a strong team-working ethos
· Be flexible in working extended hours when necessary, for example, during the harvest period
· Have the right to work in UK
Salary will be commensurate with previous experience
Salary will be commensurate with previous experience but likely in range £25k to £35k
