Renegade Urban Winery is looking for an eager cellar hand (with a view to becoming our Assistant Winemaker). As a small business and the seasonal nature of winemaking/harvest/bottling, and that fact that we’re a diverse small business, we need this person to be able to help in other areas of the business beyond the winemaking (there isn’t enough need all year around for an assistant in the winery) – we are flexible with regard to how this person may add value to the business over the course of the year. About Renegade:

Renegade was established in 2016 and is a London based urban winery that makes innovative, distinctive, bold and adventurous wines from both English and European grapes. We make a wide range of wine styles and love to experiment. The winery is based in Blackhorse Road/Walthamstow, E17 and is in a wonderful community of breweries, distilleries, makers and producers. We sell wine to lots of brilliant restaurants, bars and shops. We also have a bar in Bethnal Green and a bar/kitchen inside the E17 winery. We do events, music, internal tours and tasting and tons more! We’re just getting started…

 

Role:

We are looking for someone passionate about wine and is keen to get stuck into the making of wine and provide support to our lead winemaker. We need someone tidy, professional, accurate and clean. Ideally the candidate will have some experience of working in a winemaking/brewery/food and drink manufacturing industry, but this is not essential. We can teach you most things, we just need someone great, with potential. A positive, can do, proactive person is needed. As this is a hands-on and physical role, at times, we need the candidate to be able to comfortably lift 25kgs. A clean, UK driving license would be ace as well, but not essential.

 

Sample of Duties:

Winery:

 ·       General winery maintenance and cleaning (hygiene is very important and cleaning will be meticulous at times)

 ·       Harvest duties including grape receival, processing, pressing, barrel work

 ·       Bottling, packaging and kegging

·       Grape and wine analysis (in time with training)

·       Transfers and filtration of wine

·       Forklift operation

·       Warehouse operations

 

Additional duties:

This is where we are flexible. Depending on the candidate’s skill set and knowledge, the candidate could add value in the following areas as part of the role: Social Media and Marketing, Sales, Admin and Logistics, Finance and Accounting, Food and Drink service/Sommelier, Blending, Wine Sourcing, Events Planning/Sales/Execution, Tours and Tastings, Legal Support, eCommerce and lots of other areas. The candidate does NOT need to be an expert in all or even some of these areas but it’s just prudent to know that we will need the candidate to be flexible and able to help in other areas of the business when the winery work is not significant. Don’t panic here, we’re not looking for a genius in these areas, it’s simply to say, if you’ve got a great skill that can compliment the needs of the business, then great, if not, we’ll find something appropriate for you.
